Update to Xcode 11, which includes the macOS 10.15 SDK, and build your apps to take advantage of the latest advanced technologies in macOS Catalina. Make sure your apps are ready for release to customers by testing your UI in Dark Mode. As a reminder, all new apps and app updates submitted to the Mac App Store must support 64-bit.

Dark Mode

Dark Mode is a dramatic look that helps users focus on their work. Content takes center screen as toolbars and menus recede into the background. Mac apps that use standard AppKit colors and are rebuilt with the macOS Catalina SDK will automatically appear in Dark Mode when the user turns on the setting.

To offer universal purchase, create your app for each platform using a single app record or add platforms to your existing app record in App Store Connect. Then upload your apps using a single bundle ID in Xcode.

Product Page

The Mac App Store product page provides features that help drive discovery and downloads of your app. You can include a subtitle, promotional text, up to three app preview videos per localization, and up to 10 screenshots. You can also respond to customer reviews of your app to directly address feedback, questions, and concerns.

App Pre-Orders

Your new app can be made available for pre-order when you submit your app and metadata for review in App Store Connect. Users can order your app before it’s released for download from your App Store product page.

Categories

Categories on the App Store and Mac App Store sort apps based on their main function or subject matter. Customers can browse categories, such as Entertainment, Shopping, or Social Networking, to find related apps. You can assign a primary and a secondary category to your app. The primary category is particularly important for discoverability, as it helps users find your app when browsing or filtering search results, and it determines in which tab your app appears on the App Store.

The App Store is also the world’s best game store, with dedicated experiences for games and apps that inform and engage customers through recommendations on new releases and updates, videos, top charts, and handpicked collections and categories. Both tabs also feature app preview videos that autoplay with muted audio as customers scroll through the tabs, and selected in-app purchases — which customers can start buying directly on the App Store.

Promoted In-App Purchases

Customers can browse in-app purchases directly on the App Store and start a purchase even before downloading your app, helping your app’s content gain exposure. You can promote up to 20 in-app purchases, including subscriptions, on your app’s product page. They can also appear in search results and may be featured by our editorial team.
